William Reid is the General Manager of The state51 Conspiracy, an innovative and highly respected 21st Century music company based in London known for world-class tech, creativity, innovation and love of music. After six years with state51 working across nearly every aspect of a very diverse business, William has a broad perspective on the music industry. Before working at state51, William spent five years at the BBC as an audio archive engineer working with the sound effects library, Peel Sessions and hundreds of rare and valuable historical recordings. Based at the famous Maida Vale studios he was able to meet his guitar hero Brian May and was even allowed to stroke at his famous Red Special guitar. William ran a project recording studio for a number of years and has played in numerous bands. He was lucky enough to open for Bloc Party for the original lineup’s farewell London arena show.

The state51 Conspiracy distributes the music of The Leaf Label, Lo Recordings, Ghost Box Records, Trunk Records, NOTON and many more. The company manages about 1.5 million tracks and around 700 different labels and artists. Although known best as a digital company, state51 has a boutique global physical distribution network and operates a direct-to-fan service called Greedbag, working with labels like Heavenly Recordings, Bella Union, !K7 and R&S. state51 invests in music through its own ethical music label. Artists can submit music to the label and benefit from a non-recoupable £5,000.00 investment and artist-friendly, transparent terms. The company, a part of the state51 Music Group, is 100% independent and owns all its infrastructure, building an open independent music platform for the indie sector.
