2022 MNS Music & Industry Awards Brunch Announcement; Performances by Jody Upshaw, Kxng Wooz, DeeDee Austin & Four the Moment Tribute
With Nova Scotia Music Week 2022 right around the corner, Music Nova Scotia is excited to announce the Music Nova Scotia Music & Industry Awards Brunch! Celebrate the best of Nova Scotia with us on Sunday, November 6th at 11:00 AM at the Membertou Trade and Convention Center in Cape Breton - Unama'ki.
During this year's awards brunch, Music Nova Scotia will be paying tribute to the a cappella quartet, Four The Moment. Four The Moment was founded in 1982 in Halifax by Delvina and Kim Bernard, Jackie Barkley, and Deanna Sparks. The quartet has appeared at folk festivals, women's events, and black culture celebrations across Canada. Their songs express an empowering political message about the Black experience in Nova Scotia, women's struggles, and anti-apartheid in South Africa during the 1990s.
The group as a whole are essential modern pioneers – forging a new identity of African Nova Scotian music, and shaping what it means to be part of the African Nova Scotian community. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the group's formation, therefore it is undeniably fitting to honor the group via a performance by Amariah Bernard-Washington, Zamani Miller, Haliey Smith, and Micah Smith during this year's Awards Show.
Along with the Four The Moment Tribute comes individual performances by DeeDee Austin, 2022 MNS Artist in Residence Jody Upshaw, and Kxng Wooz.
We will also be featuring award-winning spirits at the event! Nova Scotia Spirit Co. will be back with their complimentary Caesar bar, showcasing this unique Canadian tradition to our international delegates and artists alike throughout the ceremony.
Tickets are $35 plus fees and taxes. There are limited tickets available to purchase. Please note that Festival pass and Delegate pass holders are not able to access the Awards Brunch without a purchased ticket.
